"To our distant ancestors who worked in the silence of the caves some two hundred centuries ago in elated honor of genius never surpassed." It is significant, I think, that we begin to speak of centuries, as if welcoming these women and men at the boundary of the recent past. The fact that some of them could execute such paintings, engravings, and carvings is impressive enough in itself; but more impressive is the fact that the undoubted majority who could not, evidently could appreciate, even support, those who could. I can think of no more significant single advance in the whole course of human evolution; and I can think of no more convincing demonstration of the final, decisive emergence of the utterly distinctive human brain." --Melvin Konner, The Tangled Wing

Castel de Monte in Italy is an authentic Grail Castle built and inhabited by the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II - whom many of his subjects touted as an incarnation of King Arthur. The Castel de Monte incorporates the Golden Mean Proportion in its dimensions and its designed is that of an octagon, the sacred geometrical shape that unites Spirit and Matter, Heaven and Earth, to produce the alchemical force. Inside Castel del Monte the walls were painted red to represent the fiery Holy Grail power that was generated within the structure. While covered in regalia that included long robes with the symbol of Al-Khadir - the First Fisher King - adorning them, Frederick II commanded his own battalion of Holy Grail Knights. Many later Templars visited the Castel, including Wolfram von Eschenbach, author of the definitive Holy Grail legend, "Parzival."
The scientific model of reason and universal rationality is evolving toward fuzzy logic, a new model of perception of reality. "Fuzzy philosophy" is a relativistic perspective of conceptual modeling. Fuzzy philosophy is based on acceptance of degrees of truth, the "grayness" (truth values) of most propositions. Paradox and polarization are the results of a consciousness conditioned to think in terms of opposites, black and white thinking. Rather than approaching SangREAL phenomena as real-unreal, or true-untrue, we can reframe these experiences in terms of the meaning of the transformational relationships. In this analogy, the Grail seems to point in the direction of this new paradigm. Surety and fact meld into psychic reality. To "fuzzy consciousness" nothing is absolute. It frees us from having to choose one polarity over another. It helps us accommodate conflicting concepts, keeping us open to examining the "evidence". Thus, we can "believe" to a limited degree without unconditional surrender of our critical faculties, and still continue to question skeptically, and evaluate each event on its own merits.
"They were all seated and silence was established when a thunderbolt burst of force and violence that they seemed like the castle (Cameloth) collapsed. Then immediately appeared a ray of sunshine that poured into the room a dazzling clarity. All those who were there were as enlightened by the grace of the Holy Spirit. They looked at each other, wondering what could possibly have happened, but all remained silent, unable to say a word. Long as they remained unable to speak, to look like animals voiceless. Then appeared inside the hall the Holy Grail covered with white silk fabric. Nobody could see who wore. He entered through the front door and immediately the room was filled with sweet odors if it seemed that all the scents of the earth there were widespread. The Holy Grail went into the room by the turn of each table and each time he passed, seemed to put every place that everyone wanted. Then, when all were served, the Holy Grail disappeared. No one could see what he had become and where he went. " (Holy Grail, page 30, trans. into modern French by Emmanuele Baumgartner)

1836 chapel painting revives Holy Grail quest
An unusual painting has emerged that seems to present fresh evidence of the fabled history of Rosslyn Chapel. The figure of a Templar knight is shown standing in front of a staircase at the back of the Midlothian chapel, which features in Dan Brown’s best-selling novel The Da Vinci Code. Symbologist Ashley Cowie believes that the staircase may lead to long-lost vaults or chambers housing Templar treasure – including the Holy Grail. The pastel painting, entitled Templar Knight at Roslyn Chapel by the Scottish artist RT McPherson, is dated 1836 and remained in private ownership until its auction at Shapes of Edinburgh four years ago. The modern order of the Scottish Knights Templar commissioned Mr Cowie, 36, to analyse the painting for evidence of Rosslyn’s links to the Templar legend. Mr Cowie said: “There is a growing amount of scientific evidence from excavations and scans which seems to point to the existence of these chambers, so there is every possibility that this stairwell did exist and that it was once the entrance to the chambers.” --The Scottsman

In course of time, the slow advance of knowledge, which has dispelled so many cherished illusions, convinced at least the more thoughtful portion of mankind that the alternations of summer and winter, of spring and autumn, were not merely the result of their own magical rites, but that some deeper cause, some mightier power, was at work behind the shifting scenes of nature. They now pictured to themselves the growth and decay of vegetation, the birth and death of living creatures, as effects of the waxing or waning strength of divine beings, of gods and goddesses, who were born and died, who married and begot children, on the pattern of human life. Thus the old magical theory of the seasons was displaced, or rather supplemented, by a religious theory. For although men now attributed the annual cycle of change primarily to corresponding changes in their deities, they still thought that by performing certain magical rites they could aid the god, who was the principle of life, in his struggle with the opposing principle of death. This superb filigreed golden dragon proclaims the name of Anglo-Saxon King Alfred on its side and was found close to the marshes of Athelney from which countryside hideaway he launched his counterattacks to regain control of England from Viking invaders in 878. The master goldsmith created the dragon around a teardrop shaped piece of rock crystal. Probably a church instrument - but what a magical amulet! This 'Alfred's Jewel' is in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, England.
